A futon is a general term used when referring to traditional Japanese beddings which consists of a well-padded mattress and quilt.  This helps the futon to be easily stored when not in use which in turn creates space during the day.  Futons are great space-savers which makes it popular in Japan up to this day.

Futon Bedding

In America and other western cultures, there is a different version of the futon.  It still has the same pliable mattress but it is now encased or supported by a wood or metal frame.  Western futons have the dual function of a sofa and a bed.  During the day, the futon folds in the middle to create a sofa seat and backrest.  At night, the futon can be flattened to become a bed.  The western futon is similar to the eastern futon in terms of its space-saving qualities.  Hence, western futons have become popular choices in modern homes.

Futons are available in different colors and frames.  However, if you want a classic look into your room, you can go for a white futon.  Contrary to white being a drab and lifeless color, white can be very chic and elegant.    If you live in a small pad where your living room doubles as your bedroom or if you have a tiny room to sleep in, a white futon may be a good choice.

The color “white” is often used in rooms or places that are meant for relaxation or sleep.  That is why bedrooms commonly have white or subdued hues because the color helps induce a feeling of welcoming comfort and refuge which is surely appreciated after a long day's work.  The color white is not limited to the walls and beddings.  It extends to the color of the bedroom furniture itself, such as the white futon.

Single Futons

A white bed or a white futon, if you lack space, invites you to lie down and sleep.  If your bedroom is predominantly white, it will definitely make your room brighter, which is actually good for small spaces because white reflects light and it bounces off the surface of objects.  Your small space will certainly look more alive if bathed in light as opposed to a small and dark room.    Waking up to a bright room, especially one that is infused in warm sunlight, gives you the feeling that you have to get out of bed and start your day right.  Waking up on the right side of the bed can definitely make a big difference in how your entire day could turn out.
